Posted: Mar 27, 2012 6:13 AM EDT Updated: Mar 27, 2012 6:13 AM EDT SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – Volunteers around the world collected nearly 9 million pounds of cigarettes, bottles and other trash during a coastal cleanup campaign last year, according to a report released Tuesday. more World’s largest volunteer effort OVER THE PAST 25 YEARS, Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup has become the world’s largest volunteer effort for ocean health. Nearly nine million volunteers from 152 countries and locations have cleaned 145 million pounds of trash from the shores of lakes, streams, rivers, and the ocean. This year, thanks to the 152 attendees, 405 lbs. was collected at Rodeo Beach.

Currently Michigan residents are required to separate yard waste from trash due to the “Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act” of 1994, among other benefits of the law. Separating yard waste from garbage keeps landfills from producing methane, a greenhouse gas that is 23 times more efficient at trapping heat than carbon dioxide. This study the VITamin D and OmegA-3 TriaL (VITAL) is funded by the National Institute of Health and will be conducted by a research team at Brigham and Women’s Institute of Health and Harvard Medical School over the next several years. I did some research about Computers, TVs & Electronics disposal and recycling such electronic devices. To my own surprise I found only three companies that have a buy back policy. The three out of six mentioned a take back program for free or charge a fee for disposing of it properly. Domestic Clean Up Service has no affiliation or privy of the companies listed. The cost of paying for two closed contaminated landfills has prompted the county’s public works director to suggest an amendment, outraging private trash haulers and industry insiders. Kent County has taken financial responsibility for the landfills, which cost approximately $800,000 a year, according to Public Works Director Doug Wood. He told 24 Hour News 8 that in the 1990s, provisions were put in place to cover the costs, but the money is projected to run out soon.
